Not the end of the world to make a new image, but I intend to grill MS tech support (paid) to determine (1) where is the dang log file with the error and (2) HOW exactly did it break so we can avoid this going forward. That's what I kind of figured this would need to happen. I understood that Acronis does that automatically but how can I confirm? Same for all affected devices, absolutely I keep my custom images tested and updated monthly for this reason.
You could be seeing an update corruption issue that is actually coming off as delayed, but would effect every machine with that image. And then it goes through the update process over time.
P.S- Also, if that custom image is a very old version of windows 10 like going back to v1607. It is just nice to have as an extra assist. I would recommend forcing a restore point for your future image.
I have created custom images in the past that worked great for years, until a windows update later would corrupt due to an old driver for example. And I get the feeling that will most likely fix your problems. I would try doing a fresh image from scratch. Just based on this happening to multiple pc off of that same image.
That shouldn't cause Windows to break per say, but I've seen some crazy things happen due to stuff like that. Does it automatically wipe the windows sid profile on that custom created image? I am going to assume it does, because that can cause some problems if those machines are all using a common user profile with the same windows sid like the local admin profile for example. Are all the effected machines the same make and model or is the only common thing between them the same image? I don't personally use Acronis. Sounds like a potential bad update between windows updates, driver, or piece of software on that image. And that multiple machines using this image broke around the same time. You said the image was created/restored using acronis snap deploy. TLDR I'm stuck in automatic repair hell, I can't find log file or bluescreen error or other needed detail to troubleshoot with.
